2011 Local and State Senior Games Racquetball
Fun, friendly and fierce competition rolled into one.
The Florida Sports Foundation sponsors a number of sports in their state games one of which is Racquetball that took place on Dec.10-11, 2011. Over the past few years the state seniors have evolved into a sanctioned racquetball event of which there were 46 participants entered in singles and doubles. Because the racquetball event is sanctioned a qualified tournament director is important and Jean Trimble and Glenda Lopez stepped up to run the event. The event was hosted at the Lakeland Family YMCA which has 4 nice courts with overhead viewing and large glass windows on the main floor. The age brackets run from 50-80 plus and the players engaged in both friendly and fierce competition. All in all most everyone had a great time and complimented Jean and Glenda for their efforts.

1. In past years Racquetball was a qualifying event for the state games, but several years ago it became an open event which meant you did not have to qualify at a local event to enter the state games. However, there are some municipalities that still run a racquetball event as part of their local senior games. One of those is the Ormond Beach Senior games where the racquetball event on Oct. 28-29, 2011 was hosted at the Port Orange YMCA which has 4 nice courts two of which have full back wall glass on the ground floor.
